In Te Aro, Wellington, Wellington Region, New Zealand

Self-converted, self-contained Toyota Liteace, 'Revi'!

We travelled around Aotearoa New Zealand in Revi for 4 months at the beginning of 2017, and though small, this van has an epic set up! Revi looks a bit dinged up from the outside, but was self-converted with love and has a lot of detail in the conversion.

Mechanically, since purchasing the Revi in Nov 2016, we've purchased a new car battery, have had brake work, suspension work and steering shaft replaced. Revi also has new front tires and has recently been serviced (15th December).

Revi has been very trusty, and has always managed to get us where we need to go. Read through the perks, you might be surprised with what we've managed to squeeze in.

The Set Up!

Solar Power Set-Up
- 250 Watt solar panel
- 12V 260 Ahr deep cycle battery
- Voltronic Solar Charger Controller
- Multiple circuit breakers
- Voltronic Display Monitor (Provides data on flow between solar panel, battery and 12V outputs)
- Voltronic Battery Monitor (Provides precise data about battery use / capacity / health etc)

- 800W Pure sine wave inverter (converts 12V into 230V)
- 4 x 230V sockets
- 4 x 12V socket (inside the electronics cabinet)
- 2 x 12V socket (external to the electronics cabinet)

For those who don't understand the jargon above, there is more than enough power to charge two laptops daily, multiple phones, the fridge, the internet modem plus more, even if its bad weather for days on end. It is a top notch set up!

- Superfast 4G Vodafone wireless broadband with 120GB of data per month.

Staying connected is incredibly helpful for getting around unfamiliar territory, researching places to stay, places to see, and things to do. If your that way inclined, in your down time, you can also watch films or TV, update photos, stream music etc, and if necessary you can send that email.. It just keeps your options open.

- Tinted Windows
- Curtains which cover all windows
- 3 inside lights (powered through solar) - 2 x bedroom, 1 x kitchen
- Fairy lights (pink + white)
- Privacy net curtains

- Waeco 18L Compressor fridge
- 4Kg LPG gas cylinder connected to a brilliant 2 hob gas stove
- Fynspray hand pump and deep sink
- Pots, pan, plates/bowls, mugs/cups, stovetop for coffee, cutlery, utensils, breadboard
- Basic food stuffs - salt, pepper, some spices, oil, etc
- Lots of storage space for food, including drawers and shelving
- Sunblock, hand sanitizer, spray and wipe etc

You use the kitchen standing outside, and more often than not, it is a wonderful experience to cook and clean up amongst the scenery you find yourself surrounded and immersed in. If it is raining the roof still provides shelter, and mosquito repellent does become your friend for some parts of New Zealand (ie West Coast South Island).

- 3 x 10L Grey water tank
- 3 x 10L Fresh water tank

The tanks are quite small, and either fill up or empty out faster than you hope. That said, we have designed a very effective way of swapping tanks in and out, as well as storage inside the van. It takes 5 minutes max to get back up and running.

- Pull-out slat bed for two (slightly shorter than 6ft)
- Foam topper with sheet fitted over the top to roll on top of 100mm foam cushions

We tried to make the bed both as comfortable and as easy to set up and put away possible. I think for a van as small as ours, we have managed to design a 7.5/10 sleep. Not bad.

- Well stored portable toilet w 10 Litre holding tank (can be easily moved and emptied)
- Chemicals & toilet paper

- 3 x large compartments for clothes/etc storage

Other things worth mentioning
- Portable jump-start battery kit (Can use it to get back up and running if Revi does not start and you are alone, that said, Revi always starts!)
- Jump-start cables
- Fire extinguisher (Safety)
- 2 x small chairs/chair + table for outside! (Helpful and easily stored)
- Self-built awning (2m x 1.5m) (For both shade and run protection)
- Pop-up indoor desk (Extra inside surface area)
- Solar shower (Fill it up, leave it in the sun, take a shower wherever you feel comfortable, clothes on, or off?)
- Cast-line fishing rod (If your into fishing?)
- Wonderbag for slow cooked meals (It is synonymous with a slow-cooker)

Also available if requested:
- Tent + tramping bag
- Bedding

All and all Revi makes for pretty easy van living, but perhaps i'm bias, try it our for yourself!

House rules

Please treat Revi as your own!

Please do not smoke inside the vehicle.

Please try to keep inside floors relatively clean as grit/gravel marks the wood.

If you use the pop-up desk, please make sure that desk top magnets face upwards when placed back under cushions so as not to mark the wood.

Please keep deep cycle battery above 80% - it's a huge battery so this still leaves heaps of capacity for use!

Take it easy; Revi's not the fastest but will definitely get you there! :)
