Anne's Glamper Van

In Nelson, Nelson Region, New Zealand

Description

We are a family of three and in 2016/17, after renovating this van, we spent six months touring the north and south islands of New Zealand and found that it was just perfect for us.

Vanya fitted out the van using untreated pine, kauri and rimu, oiled with a non-toxic natural oil. He made drawers for clothing, cupboards for kitchenware and shelves for storing food in boxes and baskets. There is a great little four burner gas stove and a clean, modern fridge which is set at eye-level. I made the soft furnishings and stocked the van with good quality crockery and 100% cotton linen. There is a place for everything in the van and all-in-all, it is a really functional, comfortable, bright, relaxing environment with its own charm.

We provide clear written and verbal operating instructions for a stress-free get-away and we can pick you up from Motueka or Nelson.

One of the best things about this van are its huge windows. We especially enjoyed parking beside lakes, rivers and other beautiful areas, eating our lunch, having a cup of tea or coffee, and seeing the wonderful natural environments New Zealand has to offer - right from inside the van (without sand flies biting :-).

The van is insulated throughout - underfloor, walls and ceilings - which makes it cooler in summer and warm at night. On the hottest of summer days we appreciate being able to open the large living-area windows. On clear nights, lying down on the lower beds and watching the stars gives us a lot of pleasure. And in winter, we appreciate the thermal-backed curtains, a blow heater which uses mains power, hotties and feather winter duvets. If you are hiring the van in winter, please keep in mind that NZ winters are very cold....bring your winter thermals, beanies and woollens!

Although the technical details about this van are listed below, here are some of the things we think might be useful to know.

The van is very well lit with nine 12V LED downlights, so you will not have to spend evenings peering through the gloom at the pages of your books or board games. Throughout the main sitting area and in all the sleeping areas there are modern, bright, LED down-lights.

If you prefer to sit outside at night, there are two adjustable super-bright LED flood-lights that light up your whole outdoor living area.

The solar power system is generously sized to provide ample power for your needs. A high quality, pure sine-wave inverter provides AC power for charging your phones and for running a laptop.

The awning is easy to wind in and out (please do wind it in before taking off). For those who have not been to New Zealand before or read about the high UV levels we get in here in summer, watch out - 10 minutes is all it takes to burn on high UV days in NZ - so the awning is much appreciated in summer.

The large storage box on the back of the van stores a table and chairs, water hose, grey water and toilet cleaning equipment, spare wheel and tools and a 20L compost bin. There is ample space for storage of other items such as outdoor equipment, backpacks etc.

The 2.5 L diesel engine is economical (about 10 litres per 100 kilometers) and diesel is a lot cheaper than petrol in New Zealand (around $1.25 / litre), but we have to charge you a small distance-charge of $60 for every 1000 kms, equating to a rate of $6 per 100 kms. We do this because that's what we get charged by the government and we cannot tell how far you may drive. We do not mark-up or make a profit on this charge.

Anyway, that's the sale pitch. Pleade be aware that the van is available for travelling in the Nelson Tasman area only. The facts about the van are listed below and we hope you will contact us to discuss a booking. We will do our very best to help you, including providing you with a list of local destinations that you might be interested in visiting.

WE would like you to be aware that when you request a booking and supply your credit card details, you will not be charged until you choose your insurance plan and accept terms and conditions.
