Silver Sleeper
In Wellington, Wellington Region, New Zealand
Description
The silver sleeper - a 5.5 metre long Mercedes van outfitted with everything you need to live comfortably while enjoying New Zealand's beautiful nature!
A lot of comfort in a smaller, easy to drive package.
An onboard toilet and shower room (water tanks 100 litre fresh/70 litre grey) means that the vehicle has a self-containment certificate, allowing you to park in the many freedom sites that require this.
There’s no need to find a mains hookup for the night as solar panels supply electricity for the fridge, lights and charging phones and there's gas for cooking and hot water.
The bed is permanently set up and there's a separate eating area so as soon as you stop you're all ready to relax - just wind out the awning if you want shade.
Kitchen
Kitchen unit has everything you need to prepare a meal – sink with hot/cold water, 2 pit gas stove, a fridge and bench space. A drawer unit means cutlery, crockery, etc are easy to use and there's plenty of storage space for your food.
Shower / toilet
It has a separate wet room/bath room which has a fan, porta potti toilet, a sink and hand held shower with hot/cold water.
The van comes with all bedding, towels, tea-towels, 2 outdoor chairs, all kitchen equipment for cooking and eating, plenty of space to store your clothes, food & luggage.
Please note:
There's only room for two (and only seats for two while driving),
The bed is 177x122 cm and the van is 180cm high so might not suit the very tall. One of us is 178cm and can sleep and walk around without problems.
The hot water boiler heater is only 10 litres so luxury long hot showers aren't an option (of course there's enough time to wash yourself)!
Vehicle has a manual gearbox so not suitable if you have only driven automatics.
Solar electricity means 12 volt only – there is a low watt inverter so charging tablets, phones etc is fine but a high watt hairdryer might not go so well.

House rules
Minimum hire 7 days
No driving off-road or on roads prohibited by the insurance
No smoking inside the van
No pets
Return with empty toilet and grey water tanks and full diesel tank
Allow an hour for pick up so we have time to show you how everything works.
Additional charges
One way hire may be possible for rentals longer than 10 days but will be an extra charge eg to or from Auckland $200
Cleaning charge $50
Road User Charges (RUC) are payable on all rentals at end of hire – these are 11.5 cents per mile (odometer of van is in miles). This is because the van is diesel and is compensated by the fact that diesel in NZ is generally 60-80 cents per litre cheaper than petrol.
