Parking in central Rotorua is regulated during business hours and on Saturday mornings; you can park for free for up to an hour in the heart of town and for $1 an hour for up to three hours as you work your way outward. If you need to leave your car for an extended period, you can park at the Haupapa Carpark on Haupapa Street for $20 a week with a permit purchased at the Rotorua Lakes Council Civic Centre. Rotorua is located just north of the intersection of State Highways 5 and 30, which each circumnavigate Lake Rotorua on opposite sides. Follow State Highway 5 south to Napier and State Highway 30 to arrive at destinations to the east or west of the city. The most inexpensive place to fill your refrigerator or chilly box as you pack up to explore this incredible area is the Pak’n Save at the intersection of Fenton & Amohau (State Highway 30) – bringing your own bags is recommended, though!
