Article Discover New Zealand's Hot Pools In A Campervan
New Zealand is a volcanic country so hot springs are everywhere and you can't visit New Zealand without indulging in at least one hot spring.
Soaking in the mineral filled waters and mud are the perfect way to unwind during your campervan holiday or warm up on your winter skiing trip.
The best way to explore most of them, is by cruising through the country in a campervan, one hot pool at a time.
Here are a few of our favourite Hot Pools you shouldn't miss out on:
Waikite Valley Thermal Pools:
Sitting between Rotorua and Taupo, the Waikite Valley Thermal Pools use the natural geothermal water found in the region with a sit 'n soak pool, tranquil garden pool, 2 private pools where you control the temperature and a splash pool.
The pools were established in 1972 and are all natural with no chemicals added. The main spring where the boiling water is sourced from can be found a short 5 minute walk from the site and is called Te Manaroa. On site is a café to compliment your relaxing experience as well as a camp site.
The pools are open from 10am to 9pm.
Hells Gate has a reputation for being a source of healing and wellbeing with its mineral filled hot springs and its geothermal mud springs.
You just need to get past the ‘rotten egg’ smell of the sulphuric waters of the Hurutini pool and you will have the chance to relax and take in all that the warm, luxurious pools have to offer.
Approximately 15 minutes from the Rotorua city center, a pleasant drive in your campervan hire from the local camping grounds.
Tokaanu Thermal Pools:
Tokaanu is a quaint village on the North Island of New Zealand with thermal pools that have been enjoyed for generations.
The waters are known to bring healing and relaxation and the locals are ready and waiting to host, ensuring you make the most of their natural pools. The village is set alongside a picturesque stream and you can choose to soak in its public or private thermal pools from morning til night.
